Money can make you do crazy things… but would you kill for $28 billion?
That answer comes easy to Becket Redfellow on A24’s “How to Make a Killing.”
Glenn Powell He plays Beckett, an outcast from the Redfellow family. He grew up modestly in Newark, where his mother was shunned by society New York When the billionaire patriarch became pregnant out of wedlock, and after her death, the Redfellows kept their giant doors closed to the young orphan boy.

However, before she died, she told him that he was in line for a multi-billion dollar inheritance that included property, private jets, at least one private island – you name it – giving him hope that one day it would all be handed down to him.
Years later, after working as a tailor, Beckett had the opportunity to meet his childhood girl, Julia Steinway (Margaret Qualley), who had previously told him about his family’s wealth.
“Okay, call me when you kill them all,” Julia told him jokingly as she left.

Except Beckett doesn’t think it’s a joke. In fact, he seems to find it inspiring when he begins to devise a plan to get rid of the seven relatives who stand between him and the entire enchilada. Among those on his kill list are his obnoxious aspiring artist Noah (played by Zach Woods), his rock megachurch pastor Uncle Stephen (Topher Grace), and his cold grandfather Whitelaw Redfellow (Ed Harris).
As you can see from the plot, Beckett isn’t the most stand-up protagonist we’ve seen – but he doesn’t have to be. Powell is charming and charismatic enough to make you root for Beckett even though he’s a psychopath, especially since he narrates a large portion of the film.

Julia and Beckett have very different personalities, but they have one thing in common; They will climb the financial ladder by any means necessary. It is full of surprises, which the crazy talented Qualley delivers to perfection.
In his second feature film after 2022’s Emily the Crimen, writer-director John Patton Ford takes the helm of the fast-paced, low-key black comedy loosely inspired by the 1949 British film Kind Hearts and Coronets. Powell is also credited as executive producer.

Judgment
“How to Make a Killing” is (perhaps ironically) an innocuous time at the movies that relies on Powell and Qualley’s fun performances and Ford’s strong pacing and quirky sense of humor.
