Colorado midfielder Dominick Ponder has died at the age of 23, Deion Sanders confirmed

Colorado Buffaloes Midfielder Dominick Ponder died this weekend, head coach Deion Sanders confirmed Sunday in a social media post.
“May God bless Bondar’s family, friends and loved ones.” Sanders wrote On social media. “Dom was one of my favorites! He was loved, respected, and a natural leader. Let’s pray for everyone who knew him and had the opportunity to be in his presence. Lord, You Receive Good 1. Comfort us, Lord, comfort us.”
Ponder was 23 years old.
Details of Ponder’s death are not yet known.

Ponder, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound signal caller, joined the Buffaloes and Prime Coach program. in 2024 after spending some time at Bethune-Cookman before making his way to Boulder.
Last season, Ponder played just two games with the Buffaloes while serving in a reserve role. He recorded two rushing attempts and one passing attempt.
The Opa-locka, Fla., native also received an honor from fellow Buffaloes quarterback Colton Allen.

“Dom, you have been a blessing to so many people,” Allen wrote on Instagram. “You had a presence that made everything better. You brought so much joy to me and everyone around you. I am grateful for every lift, every practice, every rep, and every conversation we shared. I will carry it with me for the rest of my life.”
Ponder was scheduled to be part of Colorado’s spring practices, which are scheduled to begin Monday. It is not known if Sanders will postpone the start due to Ponder’s death.
Ponder also received an honorarium from the University of Central Florida.

“Our prayers are with Dominic, the Ponder family, and everyone involved in the Colorado football program,” the university’s football account on X wrote.
