Virginia’s prosecutor faces criticism over immigrant murder case

A police major with the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Department even warned Fairfax County District Attorney Steve Descano about Jalloh on at least three separate occasions, according to emails obtained by the site. WJLA.
In one email to Gina Sands, Fairfax County’s chief deputy commonwealth’s attorney, the police major said Jalloh was “one of the repeat (and violent) offenders” they had discussed before.

“I wanted to get some background on why he got out so quickly and ask if your office has implemented his previous suspended sentence (5 years, I believe)? Unfortunately, based on MTV’s numerous dealings with him, the question is not whether he will be harmed (or worse) again, but rather my role in keeping the public safe, prompts me to monitor his situation.”
Fairfax County Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney A Fox News Digital spokesperson said the office “was aware of Jalloh’s criminal history and shared police concerns about his potential future dangerousness. That is why the Deputy Chief Commonwealth’s Attorney personally handled these cases.”
The spokesman added that prosecutors “will often explore many different paths to a successful prosecution, but ultimately, our decisions are limited by the testimony available and what is legally and practically permissible in the Fairfax courts.”

Virginia law requires Danhauer to be sent to a psychiatric hospital, where he will be evaluated on an annual basis for the next five years, and then every two years after that. If he no longer poses a threat to himself or others, he will have the opportunity to be discharged from the psychiatric hospital.
“I was stolen from my partner,” Heather Glier, the victim’s wife, said while on the witness stand.
“My children were stolen from their father,” she added.

He was charged with felony kidnapping by force, felony strangulation, and misdemeanor assault and battery on a household member after the incident, but Descano’s office allowed him to plead to lesser charges of misdemeanor battery and brandishing a knife.
In a statement issued by Fairfax Commonwealth’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Public Information Officer Laura Birnbaum, according to the report, the plea agreement “achieved the results the victim wanted.”
However, when the victim spoke with 7News, she refuted Birnbaum’s statement, saying she did not agree to the plea deal.
“It’s dangerous,” she said, fearing another violent incident.
“If I die, who will take care of them?” The victim said, referring to her children.
