John Fetterman must run for president in 2028 to save the Democrats

It’s not entirely clear how Fetterman went from being a progressive and failed Senate candidate in 2016 to winning in 2022 and becoming the perennially moderate thorn in the side of left-wing Democrats. Some believe his medical problems changed him, but the answer may be much simpler.

In fact, it may not be that Fetterman has moved away from his party, but rather that his party has moved away from Fetterman.

A striking example of this is Israel. Even five years ago, support for the Jewish state was as widespread among elected Democrats as the EZ Corridor on American highways. But today there is an absurd and mythical consensus within the party that Israel committed genocide.

John Fetterman criticizes the anti-Israel “rot” in the Democratic Party, rejects the Sudanese Olympic Committee’s claims of “genocide” in Gaza

Fetterman, along with a few others like Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., has pushed back hard against these anti-Israel narratives, even with nominally pro-Israel voices like Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and the Senate Minority Leader. Chuck Schumer They have shamefully kept their heads down on this issue.

Recently, at the current closure of Department of Homeland SecurityOnce again, Fetterman sticks to his party’s leadership by insisting that the agency must be fully funded, without any strings attached.

He is the only Democrat in the Senate to take this reasonable position.

Fetterman is also the only Democrat willing to cheer Brutal death The regime’s leaders in Iran, like the rest of its party, are undermining the war effort with senseless attacks against Trump and the Secretary of War. Pete Hegseth.

Meanwhile, when it comes to the communist mayor of New York City, Zahran MamdaniOne of the most popular figures in Democratic polls, Fetterman said of him last year: “Everything I read about him, I don’t actually agree with any of it, politically. That’s just who I am as a Democrat. He’s not even a Democrat, frankly.”

But here Fetterman seems wrong. In fact, Democrats have lined up to support Madman Mamdani and his merry band of capitalist-hating DSA darlings, and Fetterman is the one losing support among Partisan voters.

But he does not lose support among all voters.

According to a recent Quinnipiac University poll, a whopping 72% of voters in the United States are Republican Keystone State Only 22% of Democrats approve of Fetterman, while independents are split 50/50.

This is the strange place we find ourselves in, where more Republican voters in Pennsylvania approve of Democratic Sen. Fetterman than Republican voters in Texas approve of Republican Sen. John Cornyn.

All of this has led to speculation that the hoodie-wearing maverick might switch parties and run for his seat as a Republican in 2028. But that’s not the sense I take from Fetterman’s words and actions.

Fetterman wants to save the Democratic Party, not abandon it.

The best way for Fetterman to achieve this goal is not by defending his Senate seat two years from now, but by… Running for president.

I recently polled some insiders I know from both parties, asking whether Fetterman really had a shot at winning the presidency in 2028. The most common answer was “yes,” with a few “shoots.”

The logic here is that every other potential Democrat who could stand on the presidential primary debate stage endorses the crazy leftist ideas that Fetterman stands in the way of.

The odds are stacked against Fetterman on his quixotic mission to restore sanity to America’s oldest political party, but then again, what are the odds of this guy ever becoming a senator in the first place?

All Americans should be glad to have this one senator who speaks clearly regardless of partisan talking points, marching orders, or the blowing winds of public opinion. It may be naive to think that these qualities still matter to voters, but if so, consider me naive.
