Democratic governors asked to abandon ‘dangerous disruption’ amid immigrant crime wave

A Department of Homeland Security spokesman criticized Democratic governors Gavin Newsom of California and J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, both rumored to be 2028 Democratic presidential candidates, as is Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey.

“Governor Newsom and his political colleagues — including Pritzker and Haley — are unleashing murderers, child molesters and drug dealers into our neighborhoods and putting American lives at risk,” the spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

The spokesman cited statistics showing that seven out of 10 of the safest cities in the United States cooperate with it US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They issued a personal appeal to Democratic governors, saying: “If we work together, we can make America safe again.”

“criminal Illegal aliens “They should not be released from prison and back on our streets to terrorize more innocent Americans,” the spokesperson continued, adding that the agency “calls on politicians to stop this dangerous disruption and commit to honoring ICE detainees.”

The 10 safest cities in List of US News and World Report Located either in states or counties that have laws directing municipal authorities to cooperate or coordinate directly with federal immigration enforcement authorities. This cooperation often occurs through 287(g) agreements, which allow local law enforcement agencies to work directly with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The cities also share other characteristics, such as high median incomes and a lack of mixed-use areas or temporary rental housing, underscoring the debate over whether immigration enforcement cooperation plays a useful role in public safety.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, there are more than 33,000 criminal illegal aliens in custody in California.

The spokesman cited several illegal immigrants with criminal records who were arrested by ICE last year and released into California despite ICE detention, including child predators and gang members.

One of these individuals, Hector Grigalba Cernas, from Mexico, was previously arrested for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age. Although Grigalba Cernas was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he was released last year, DHS said. He is currently in federal custody.

Another, Xujin An, from China, who was arrested on charges of forcible sexual penetration and sexual battery in Westminster, California, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement after failing to honor a detainee, according to the Department of Homeland Security. An is currently in ICE custody awaiting judicial proceedings.

Third, Angel Navarro Camarillo, who DHS said was a member of the La Familia street gang, was arrested by ICE after being arrested by local authorities on sex offender violation charges. Likewise, the detainee against Navarro Camarillo was not honored, according to the Department of Homeland Security. He has since been deported from the United States.

Carmelo Corrado Hurtado, of Guatemala, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement after an unanswered detention request and found guilty of first-degree murder, driving under the influence and second-degree robbery. Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed Corrado Hurtado from the United States last year.

Another, Leonardo Ignot Osto, a Mexican national who entered the United States illegally at least four times and was convicted of child kidnapping of a victim younger than 17, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement last year after failing to honor his detainer. He was deported from the United States

A third, Jaime Mandujano Nunez, of Mexico, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement late last year after authorities released him on an unknown date after he was convicted of criminal sexual assault of a child. He has also since been deported from the United States

This comes amid mass outrage over the killing of Sheridan Gorman, a student at Loyola University in Chicago, at the hands of an illegal immigrant, Venezuelan citizen José Medina Medina.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Medina, 25, entered the United States during the Biden administration and was previously arrested for shoplifting in Chicago, marking a prior criminal incident prior to the alleged murder.

On Sunday, the Chicago Police Department formally charged Medina with murder in the shooting death of Gorman. Medina currently faces six criminal charges, including a first-degree murder charge, the department said in a statement.

A spokesperson for Pritzker’s office told Fox News Digital: “Our thoughts are with the family, friends and Loyola University community who are grieving the senseless killing of Sheridan Gorman.”

Pritzker’s spokesman said, “Violent crimes have no place on our streets, and we expect the alleged perpetrator to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

They added that the Trump administration “needs to stop politicizing heinous tragedies and instead focus on real solutions, like restoring federal violence prevention funds that support our public safety efforts.”
