A Park Police officer opened fire in the capital while authorities closed off several buildings

A US Park Police officer has been shot Southeast Washington, DCThe Metropolitan Police Federation confirmed on Monday.
“We can confirm that a member of the US Park Police has been shot in the 5000 block of Queens Stroll Place SE,” the union posted on X. “We are all sending our prayers out for the officer and @1791FOP at this time.”
US Park Police also confirmed that the officer was shot, adding that the injured officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Park Police also said the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m

FOX 5 in D.C. reported that authorities closed off several blocks in the area, restricting vehicular and pedestrian access while police responded to the incident.
The closures include areas along Benning Road SE as well as nearby residential streets, including the 5000 to 5100 block of Queens Stroll Place SE and the 4600 block of Hillside Road SE.

Officials said no vehicular or pedestrian traffic is allowed in the affected areas, and they urge the public to avoid the area and follow police directions. Closings remain subject to change.
The station also reported that a heavy law enforcement presence remains in place as investigators work to determine the cause of the shooting.
