Former DARE officer Michael Tapscott pleads guilty to drug sales

Former New York State police officer who also worked as a cop in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program, and admitted to selling drugs while on duty.
Michael Tapscott pleaded guilty in Ontario Provincial Court to 40 drug charges. Rochester first I mentioned.
He resigned from the Geneva Police Department last year after being accused of selling Adderall, a Schedule 2 controlled substance, to someone at a used car dealership while on duty and in his squad car.

Tapscott, a 13-year veteran of the police force, also served as a trainer at DARE, known for its mission of keeping kids off drugs.
Four other former officers have been charged in connection with Tapscott.
The investigation into the Tapscott case began in April 2025 when the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a uniformed officer was selling drugs while driving a marked patrol car. Syracuse.com I mentioned.

Ontario Police Chief David Cirincione said a joint investigation with other law enforcement agencies found that Tapscott asked fellow officers and civilians to buy and Selling drugsduring and outside of work.
Tapscott’s plea came after new charges were filed, including three counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of Controlled substancethree counts of fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, and two counts of official misconduct.
Three others have been charged in connection with Tapscott, including Geneva Police Sgt. David Felice, former Geneva Police Officer Nathan Jackon, and William McGowan, Syracuse.com reported.

As part of the plea agreement, the former officer will spend 16 weekends in prison followed by five years of probation.
