NTSB warns of dangerous mid-air collision risk at Hollywood Burbank Airport

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) held a meeting last week related to the January 2025 collision of a US Airways flight and a Black Hawk helicopter in the Potomac River.

She continued: “The distance between them is less than 10 miles, and each of them serves a wide range of aircraft, and they have close arrival and departure routes.”

Based on an analysis by the Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), it temporarily lowered the traffic pattern at Van Nuys in February by 200 feet, in order to “minimize conflicts with aircraft landing at Burbank,” the FAA said in a statement.

Van Nuys Airport is operated by the Los Angeles city government, which also operates Los Angeles International Airport, and is intended for non-commercial air travel.
