“We must also control our national borders, and control who and how many people enter our countries,” he added. “This is not an expression of xenophobia. It is not hatred. It is a fundamental act of national sovereignty.”

Rather, we want allies who are proud of their culture and heritage, who recognize that we are heirs to the same great and noble civilization, and who are willing and able to defend it with us.”

“We in America have no interest in being polite and organized to foster a West-directed decline,” Rubio said. “We do not seek separation, but rather the revival of an ancient friendship and the renewal of the greatest civilization in the history of mankind.”

The minister said that the United States seeks to create a coalition that is “ready to defend our people, protect our interests, and maintain the freedom of action that allows us to shape our own destiny, not a coalition that exists to administer a global welfare state and atone for the alleged sins of past generations.”

Rubio reminded the audience that America’s relations with Europe extend back centuries, saying that the United States will remain permanently linked to the continent.

“What we inherited together is something unique, special, and irreplaceable,” Rubio said. “Working together in this way, we will not only help restore a rational foreign policy, we will restore a clear sense of ourselves. We will reclaim our place in the world, thereby rebuking and nullifying the forces of civilizational erasure that today threaten both America and Europe.”
