The popular cruise line is fixing noise complaints by adding a feature to connected cabins

Two of the company’s ships, Icon and Star of the Seas, feature exterior doors to connecting cabins — replacing the traditional interior door, as Royal Caribbean Blog reported.

Guests can close the exterior entrance doors while leaving the main cabin doors open or unlocked, making it easier to move between rooms without relying on a shared interior door.

“I’ve stayed in connecting rooms before, but there’s a big difference in Star of the Seas,” said the blogger, who is not affiliated with the company itself. “Instead of having a connecting door inside the room, (there’s) a feature that I think is pure genius.”

“Royal Caribbean added a pair of exterior doors to solve the problem of traditionally connecting cabins – a shared interior door is flimsy and not completely soundproof.” The blog continued.

“The idea with these rooms is that you can close the outside doors and then keep the main cabin door open or unlocked so you can move easily between each room.”

Launching in January 2024 as the first ship of the Icon class, Icon of the Seas features eight neighborhoods, seven pools and a suspended infinity pool.

It is headquartered in Miami, and includes more than… 40 places to eat.

Star of the Seas debuted in August 2025 from Port Canaveral.
