An Oklahoma school superintendent has shot the school shooter and hailed him as a hero

Pauls Valley High School Principal Kirk Moore and other employees spotted the gunman, later identified as 20-year-old former student Victor Hawkins, and immediately responded to subdue him, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI).

“The school principal observed that an adult, approximately 20 years old, entered the school with a handgun,” OSBI spokesman Hunter Mackey said. Coco-TV. “When the manager noticed this, he quickly intervened, as well as other employees. The individual was able to fire multiple shots, striking the manager, but no one else was injured.”

Moore was airlifted to the hospital in stable condition, authorities said.

“The actions of the staff and the manager who intervened as soon as they saw someone with a firearm saved lives today,” McKee told the outlet.

The shooting occurred around 2:21 p.m., according to authorities. The school was placed on lockdown until officers cleared the scene, and the students were later reunited with their families.

“I know the word gets around a lot, but he’s a hero today,” Pauls Valley Superintendent Brett Knight said of Moore as he spoke to reporters at the scene.

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt also praised Moore In a statementSaying that he “acted courageously to protect the lives of students.”

“Sarah and I are praying for his speedy recovery,” Stitt said. “I am grateful for the quick response by law enforcement and school staff, and I am grateful that no students were harmed.”

Hawkins was booked into the Garvin County Jail.

The 20-year-old was charged Wednesday with one count each Shooting with intent to kill Carrying a weapon into a public gathering, and two counts of criminally pointing a firearm. His bail was set at $1 million.
