US officials say Iran threatens American universities in Lebanon

The US Embassy in Beirut described the security situation in Lebanon as “volatile and unpredictable.”

“Air strikes, drones, and missile attacks are occurring across the country, especially in the south, the Bekaa, and parts of Beirut,” the officials wrote in a security warning.

The State Department urges Americans to leave the Middle East as airspace closures disrupt travel

The American Embassy in Beirut added this Strongly encouraged US citizens in southern Lebanon, near the border with Syria, in refugee settlements and in the southern suburbs of Beirut — including the suburbs — should immediately leave those areas.

“We recommend that American citizens in Lebanon who choose not to leave prepare contingency plans for emergency situations and be prepared to shelter in place if the situation deteriorates further.” Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
